_MG_4420_550x412 Kids rather to use Linux than Windows?

I bet you’ve heard about the OLPC (One Laptop Per Children) project, the project, as the name says consists in giving free laptops to children in 3rd world countries, or wherever they need them, the laptops are made as cheap as they can be made so the governments of these countries can buy them easier.

The XO, which is one of these OLPC laptops was tested with a child to see if the child would rather to use a Linux distribution (Sugar) or the famous Windows XP, after some testing the child decided to keep the Linux for the night, I mean… that’s got to mean something right?

What do you think about it?

minefield_logo Browser faster than Chrome: Minefield

After Chrome was released a few months ago every single browser was being compared to it because let’s face it, Chrome is so fast doing some things…like java script, Firefox, the 2nd fastest browser after Chrome, released a beta not long ago, this beta was faster, than the previous Firefox, but not faster than Chrome.

This is the part where the story gets interesting, Mozilla, the company behind Firefox released Minefield, which is something like and alpha of the new Firefox, is just an experimental project but tests indicates that it’s already 10% faster than Google Chrome, so if you want to test it, you can download it right here. The good news are that it already supports Mac, Windows and Linux, so go and test it.

fondo-gmail Gmail new feature: Canned Responses

Well, Gmail is kind of popular today, checking Google labs in the Gmail tab located at the top right of the email interface I found they have a new feature, named Canned Responses, this feature is kind of useful for replying to annoying emails or common emails.

The feature allows you to make a lot of “generic” answers, so you when you get a common email, you have the generic answer just for it, personally I get a lot of generic emails, asking me for some info, or just letting me know things I don’t want to know and I don’t care about, and I’ll be using this feature quite a lot, specially now that I started blogging.

And you??, are you going to use it, or is just another useless feature?

Microsoft accused of …… piracy in China

Pirate XP

Pirate XP

Microsoft is known for hating the pirates and everything related to them not long ago they opened their first anti piracy in Latin America located in Colombia, Microsoft also wanted to expand this campaign to China, where they weren’t received as well as they would’ve wanted, because a Chinese lawyer issued a formal complain to Microsoft stating:

Microsoft’s measure will cause serious functional damage to users’ computers and, according to China’s Criminal Law, the company can stand accused of breaching and hacking into computer systems of Chinese.I respect the right of Microsoft to protect its intellectual property but it is taking on the wrong target with wrong measures, they should target producers and sellers of fake software, not users. The authorities should take action to protect citizens’ property and privacy rights. Microsoft is manipulating our computers through the WGA and it will affect our use of computers, the company should stop the action immediately and do some constructive things, such as lowering the price of its software and changing its business models.

I think Microsoft will have a hard time there, but I also think the lawyer is kind of right, because the Windows Genuine Advantage has a lot of errors, and I dont know why the final user has to be the one paying for the product makers mistakes.
